This certification was born out of a business-wide need to differentiate Project Managers from those who know about project management processes and methodologies. There are many people certified on project management as a science or methodology, yet still Project Managers struggle to find the path to success on their projects, fail to navigate different business environments and/or leave a path of dead relationships in the process.
The BPM™ certification demonstrates you know how to be a Project Manager who knows both the Science (Tools, Methodologies, and Processes) and the Art (Personalities, Conflict Management, and Leadership). The Project Manager with this certification knows how to find a balance quickly to lead the team on their terms, taking the human factor into the equation and motivating people to succeed together.
People with the BPM™ certification are certified to “be” Project Managers; not simply aware of the project management processes and methodologies. It is geared specifically to the Project Manager role, and the educational requirements are specifically geared to performing the role; not just knowing about the role. When you earn this certification, it means you can operate in the Project Manager role within any business environment.
Earning the BPM™ certification is intense and is only geared towards those who either plan to become a Project Manager within the next 12 months or already fill the Project Manager role. The following requirements must be met to earn this certification:
Our BPM certified Project Managers enjoy a success rate of over 90%. How? Because we teach you to be project tool agnostic, and to lead based on personality styles, actions, and motivations of people.
This certification is the first project management certification that targets the Project Manager role specifically, and both the leader and manager of the project, and validates that you are uniquely prepared to apply both the Art and Science of project management in any business environment.
Projects succeed when they have a strong, methodical, leader who understands that project tools and processes alone are just part of the picture. Without the team, and the understanding the unique qualities each team member brings to the team, projects fail.
The industry reports for the last 30+ years show success rates around 25% - 35%. Our certification and training aim for 90%, minimum, project success rates for our Project Managers.
These certifications bring their own value, and, in fact, our Project Manager Masterclass even prepares you to pass those certification exams also. The BPM™ distinguishes you from the crowd as a Project Manager who can adapt to any business environment to lead a team of people towards a successful project. It blends both the Science (inputs, processes, outputs, documentation) and the Art (people, personalities, conflict, leadership). BusinessPMO has made it a high priority for certification holders to be aware of "what's in the book" while operating as the leader of a project team real and very diverse business environments.
The PMP, in our opinion, is good for validating you know the basic project management inputs, processes, and outputs of the project management life cycle. It's highly focused on the science of project management. The Project Management Institute has done an excellent job of advocating for higher salaries and convincing employers their certification is essential for validation of project management knowledge.
The CSM and other related Agile certifications are good for validating you know the Agile framework and the concepts that drive project methodologies under that framework (Scrum, Kanban, etc.). It's highly focused on the science of a very specific form of project management. The Scrum Alliance has done an excellent job of standardizing what it means to be a Certified Scrum Master. However, you have to be very careful of all the other variations out there that are more, or less, certification mills. If you are interested in this certification, our recommendation is to stick to the Scrum Alliance.
